Dawn Gates, MH is a registered nurse, medicine woman, master herbalist and aromatherapist who has been studying natural and spiritual healing for over 18 years. She has studied with herbal greats like Mathew Woods, Rosemary Gladstar, Candis Cantin, Phillis Light, Dottie Running Horse, Lise Wolf, and Susun Weed. Cost: $20.00 Urban Homesteading 101 for the Spiritual and Ecologically Minded In today’s society there is a need to be able to take care of yourself and your family not only in emergencies but day to day as prices for food and oil increase. In this class I will teach you about basic homesteading and emergency preparedness practices including how to start a garden big enough to feed your family in a small space, how to build and use a solar oven, How to collect and purify rain water, how to can foods, wild eatables that are growing in the city around you and more. August 29th @ Avalon in Orlando. 4-8:00 pm. Cost: $80.00. Solar ovens and rain barrels will be available for purchase for additional cost. Making Herbal Medicine - Discover the art of making your own medicine. I will teach you how to make both alcoholic and non-alcoholic tinctures using solar and lunar techniques, infused oils, and medicinal salves. We will also discuss how to combine herbs to create several healing mixtures using my tried and true recipes. At Dawn’s enchanted cottage in Paisley, FL. September 11, 1-3pm. $50.00. Advanced Herbalism (Materia Medica) A six-month class that will cover the top 100 herbs that every herbal student should know. Information includes; Doctrine of signatures related to each plant, growing conditions/locations, medical uses, contraindications, standard dosages, and specific indications by disease pattern. Case studies will be discussed; herbs will be tasted, made into herbal medicines, and learned through hands on experiences with them. Part of the Herbalist certification program. Monthly classes starting September 26th4-7pm @ Avalon in Orlando Cost $350.00 Pre-Register and pay before July1, 2010 and get $50.00 off the class price. Chinese and Ayurvedic Organ Systems In this 6 month class we will delve deeply into the herbal healing world and learn how to treat dis-ease with herbs based on treating not only one organ but treating the whole system. We will explore the Chinese 5 element system and the Ayurvedic system of Doshas in detail. The goal of this class is to show advanced herbal students the connections between the organs but how to treat dis-orders in the most effective way possible. This class is part of the Master Herbalist Certification program, but is recommended for students who want to advance their knowledge of natural healing and how the body works with herbal medicine. Monthly classes start October 10th 4-7pm at Avalon in Orlando. Cost $500.00 Pre-register and pay before July 1, 2010 and get $50.00 off of class price. Aromatherapy 200- Aromatherapy course for those who desire deeper training into essential oils. In this class we cover chemical structure, 20 more essential oils, how to use them to treat illness and how to use them in different mediums (bath salts, carrier oils, etc.) to treat different diseases. CEU's offered.
Aromatherapy 400- A 6 month course on aromatherapy that will make the taker compedent to be a practicing aromatherapist. Skills taught include basic anatomy and physiology, history, chemical structures, over 50 essential oils, and how to use them in a practice. A test will be given (to those who desire certification) and passing students will recieve certification and CEU's. Diagnostics 101 and advanced diagnostics must be completed prior to certification.
Beginning Herbalism- A beginning course in herbalism. In this class we cover over 50 herbs and their medicinal properties, case studies are discussed and hands on learning is involved (tasting, touching, smelling, herb walks). CEU's are offered. Classes met for one full weekend or (3) 1 day weekend days.
Advanced Herbalism- This is an advanced class in herbalism for the more serious student. In this class we will be studying over 150 herbs (in depth), discussing case studies, learning basic diagnostic methods, and doing more hands on learning. Students who desire herbalist certification will take a test, and recieve CEU's (For those who wish to recieve the schools blessing (and certificate) to become a herbal practitioner diagnostics 101 and advanced diagnostics must be taken. Classes meet for 1 weekend a month for 6 months.
Making Herbal Medicine- A class for those who want to learn how to make their own salves, tinctures, bath salts, teas and so much more. Learn the secrets from someone who has been making and selling her medicine for over 12 years.
Diagnostic Methods 101 - In this class I teach students about how to diagnose illness by looking at the face, tounge, and skin. Students in this class will also learn about pulse testing and learn several types of Chinese pulses. These methods of diagnosis are over 5,000 years old, and very valuable to the herbalist/healer. CEU's are offered and class meets 1 weekend a month for 2 months.
Advanced Diagnostic Methods- this is an advanced class about facial/body diagnosis. In this class we will deeply explore what the different colors and lines are on the face, hands, and tounge. We will also go into diagnosing by looking at the ear, hands, and nails. We will also introduce the student to the 32 differerent pulses that are used by TCM practitioners. This class is for the student who wishes to become a serious practitioner. This class lasts 3-4 months. Ceu's are offered and classes meet 1 weekend a month for 4 months. Diagnostics 101 a prerequsite.
How to Start an Herbal Business- In this class we will discuss the ways to start a practice. In this class we will discuss how to get your name out there, how to attract clients and how to keep them once you have gotten them, how to advertise effectivly, how to get refferals, how to file for a tax ID and how to keep financial records.
Advanced students who have completed advanced practice classes may inquire about a 1-2 year apprenticeship program.
